Coastal Getaway

Sprawling along the shore of a southern Florida waterway just minutes from the Gulf of Mexico, this newly built home acts a winter respite for its homeowner and his colorful assortment of contemporary art. With the help of Kevin Serba, the design team set out to create a cutting edge vacation home that would double as a personal gallery for the homeowner’s prized pieces. From the outside, an updated version of a traditional Spanish Colonial would blend nicely with the home’s natural setting along the palm tree spotted bay. Inside, however, the architecture would tell quite a different story. Bright white walls, ceilings and even floors were to act as a blank canvas for the mixture of amorphous glass sculptures, colorful paintings and high resolution photography that would ornament them. Large squares of white marble tile were to run through the entry and down hallways, while thick hardwood floors would be lacquered white and finished with a glossy top-coat. Accent lighting was carefully called out and soffit lined ceilings were dressed with recessed rope lighting to create further ambiance. In the living room, a long wall of windows on electric gliders seamlessly sides away at the push of a button, opening the room up to the breathtaking views of the water beyond. Throughout the home, vibrantly upholstered furniture with sculptural frames was selected to complement the collection. Here the contrast of color and form give the home its distinct personality and tell the story of a collector’s coastal getaway.
